Icarus is frantic over what to do with Corsibane and brings up the very disconcerting thought of how to return Corsibane's body home, provided none of them even know where he is from. The party, a little unnerved and not sure how to deal with this loss fumbles for ideas before the peacock tries to get Galen's attention and indicating they head for Destitute. They wait for Thorvalla to recover, not having the means to carry two bodies, before heading in the direction of Destitute, the peacock setting the pace.
After about thirty minutes of walking, the party is alerted to someone following them along the road. They are even more startled when, upon sighting the party, the stranger lets out a cry that sounds a lot like the peacock's and begins to run towards them. The peacock seems to angrily call back and when the two are before each other, they seem to bicker in bird-like sounds before the peacock turns and struts away. The stranger, upon inspection, resembles a strange cross between a bird and a human, but stands at the height of everyone's hips. It begins to mimic their speech before stating in an unknown voice "Guard Nackle." The party calls this stranger Nackle from there on, and she indicates that she wishes to accompany the party, looking to keep an eye on the peacock.
The party soon has to rescue the peacock from the poking and prodding from bandits and they quickly take them down, Nackle overly fascinated with Thorvalla's "shiny" powers. She also manages to steal a rivet from a bandit's armor. Thorvalla, eager to see how close to Destitute they may be, takes to the sky for a couple minutes, only noticing a river in the distance and the slight haze of something on the horizon. The party travels on towards the river and nearing sunset there is the glimmer of the sun reflecting off a surface far out towards the haze on the horizon. Nackle, doing her best to resist, eventually succumbs to her urges and chases quickly after the shiny. Not wishing to lose her, Thorvalla leaves Corsibane's body with Galen and Icarus. She and Kaithias quickly run after Nackle, catching up fairly quickly, though they ran for nearly a straight twenty minutes. Nackle, only able to stop as the sun set, became highly disappointed with the disappearance of the shiny as well as her own strange and new behavior. They decide to set up camp near the river and wait for the others to arrive. It's nearly an hour before the others finally show up, huffing and out of breath as the two weakest members of the party attempt to carry Corsibane's body between them. The party settles, Kaithias trying to make a bear hood for Nackle, and Thorvalla doing her best to fashion some sort of coffin.
