Thorvalla, Kaithias, and Corsibane mysteriously find themselves in a new land called Mitharia. To some, it appeared to be overnight in their sleep. To others, during rituals or meditation. They were greeted by a girl known as Esdeul “Kalavin” which means “Gatekeeper.” Originally cautious of the party, Esdeul relaxed when it became apparent that none of them were ready to attack her.
She explained that others have shown up before them, but all vicious and hostile. Mitharia’s security, a golden dragon named Brynhildr Elda, made himself known and cryptically only released the two words: “You’ll do.” He returned to his rest.
Esdeul explained that it seemed the barriers between dimensions must be fading because people and objects alike have been appearing in Mitharia without permission or control from the Elda. Kaithias sneaked off to loot what he could while Esdeul spoke with the others.
Esdeul stated that Brynhildr has been around for as long as she could remember, and that she has no memory of how she happened to come to Mitharia, only that it was her duty to act as its librarian. She asked the group if any of them remembered dying, explaining that another of her duties was to h, only that it was her duty to act as its librarian. She asked the group if any of them remembered dying, explaining that another of her duties was to help lost souls seek peace so that they may move on to the Land of Eldas. After revealing there had been two others, Deacan and Palemoon, that had been lost souls, she seemed reluctant to say anymore, mentioning only that she and Deacan did not get along.
She explained that Brynhildr knew of a halfling named Uthar who traveled between realms and was an expert on such topics. Seeking him out at his current residence in Pine Realm may lead them to finding out how they ended up in Mitharia and how they plan on returning home.
Kaithias, meanwhile, broke into Esdeul’s room, rummaging through her things, and stealing a hawk figurine.
The party explored the halls of Mitharia, Thorvalla inspecting Deacan’s room and finding a greatsword. Corsibane, after breaking into the bathroom, helped himself to the kitchens while Kaithias found what looked like a study room and then looked around Palemoon’s room, finding a strange drawing and a compass.
When the party regrouped, Esdeul was speaking to a man named Icarus. He was very put off by their presence and did not seem to want to mingle, despite Esdeul’s apparent pleading. Deciding they had dallied enough the party left Icarus behind and traveled to Pine Realm.
It was raining upon arrival in Ruby and the group quickly traveled to the tavern, which had just a few patrons in it. The barmaid was quite chatty and informed everyone that the Guardians were due to be in town “any day/second/minute now” and that amongst them was Niri, who grew up in the town of Ruby and was returning home. She grew cautious when the dark elf did not seem to know of the Nightwind clan, which all dark elves come from. She explained, hesitantly, that Silverfall and Nightwind have been at conflict, since the two compete to have the most Guardians throughout the realm. Silverfall has plenty, while Nightwind has only a few. She had not heard of a halfling named Uthar, but asked the part if he was involved with a child abduction case, explaining a boy named Ty had recently gone missing.
The party had some conflict, with Thorvalla and Kaithias not wishing to waste their time on a boy. Corsibane sought further information in the tavern, gaining a little respect from Esdeul. He was stopped by a young man named Axe who informed him that there were bigger issues than missing children. Axe was especially concerned that the 3 Guardians had not yet arrived, and explained about merchant caravans being attacked but all the loot being left behind. Suspecting that this was the Guardian’s mission, Axe asks Corsibane to keep an eye out for them, as powerful magicians such as they should not be as late as they are. He mentioned Niri was his best friend and offered Corsibane a reward for finding them.
Corsibane informs the group of the missing merchants, not mentioning the delayed guardians or rewards involved. Thorvalla is intrigued. Guessing that missing Ty must be connected, they seek out his mother Mrs. Halley and discover that Ty ran off chasing the town mutt. He went one way, but quickly turned down the road towards Mudcross. The group now sits outside her home, contemplating if they should make a stop at the store across the street, or head straight out of town.
